Case Study - Review Report For Nova Scotia Website

A professional website review report for a health website, designed to improve performance and boost profits.

Review Brief

Website: Nova Scotia Health

  • Let's have a look from the top of the page. Your logo is nice. On desktops and laptops it's fine, though a bit too large. On mobiles it becomes a tinny logo, which makes a bad impression. This is a design mistake that must be fixed.
  • Take off the "home" link from the menu. Today's standard is to use the business name/logo as the home link.
  • On the desktop version, the top-right area of the page is too messy. What you need to do is (a) move the social media icons to the bottom of the page and (b) take off the "do you have an idea..." button. You don't need the one on top since you already have a button under the main headline.
  • The navigation menu is too basic. It doesn't make a good impression. You should consider adding a few more links.
  • "YOUR IP JOURNEY STARTS TODAY"
This is a very generic headline. I don't think that your new visitors will understand what you mean. Besides, the term "journey" is used a lot. I'd look for something more original, including a subheader. You may even consider replacing the present waves with an image that shows real medical innovation. Don't use all capital letters phrasing!
  • The slider that follows is not a good idea.
First of all, sliders slow down pages. Google gives your page a speed score of only 36/100, which is a very low score. Secondly, the slider means that users on desktops will have to click on the left/right arrows in order to see your images and descriptions. In terms of usability, this is a bad practice. What you need is cards. For example, 2 rows with three cards on each row.
  • "...and discovery activities such as... lead to inventions and discoveries".
The 'Discovery leads to discoveries' phrasing should be reconsidered.
  • The extensive use of stock images may affect your credibility.
  • Before displaying the 6 phases of the process, I'd start with a short opening text. Introduce yourselves, tell people who you are, and explain the main benefits of your services.
  • The about us page shouldn't be the first page on the menu. Users never read about a company before reading first about its offers.
  • The about us page looks too much like a basic Word document.
  • About us pages are like company profile pages. Things like when the business was established, team members, facilities, vision, etc. Part of the short text you have on this page doesn't belong to an about us page.
  • In the resources section, I wouldn't provide outside links. People who click on outside links may not return even if they intended to.
